Hal Taylor was an HVAC technician and mechanical contractor with his own commercial HVAC and refrigeration service business for 19 years before joining Cleveland City Schools as the Operations Director in 2012. Prior to going back to school and getting into the HVAC industry he worked in the commercial construction trades for two years and the trucking industry for nine years. Hal attended two years at Palm Beach Atlantic University majoring in business after graduating high school in South Florida.
Mr. Taylor manages the physical plant aspects of 12 school system properties (9 schools, 3 support buildings) with 1.3 million square feet and the operation / logistics of a transportation department that carries up to 2,300 students each day with 40 school buses. The department has 2 assistant managers, 1 administrative assistant, 6 skilled staff, 6 general repair staff, 35 bus drivers and 10 bus monitors. The position is responsible for purchasing, contract negotiation, vendor supervision and general management of the maintenance and transportation department as well as the oversight of a 50 employee contracted janitorial service.
Hal is also the school systems construction project manager. CCS finished the construction of an 11 million dollar athletic arena at Cleveland High School in 2016 and a new 15 million dollar elementary school in 2019, both projects were on time and under budget. We are presently renovating a 48,000 square foot bank building to be the new administrative offices for Cleveland City Schools.
Hal is married to Stacy Taylor for over 38 years and has 3 grown children who have provided the couple with four grandchildren.
