Tennessee has a new law and guidelines regarding school buses and drivers, which became effective January 31, 2018. We asked our TNRMT attorney to brief us regarding the laws surrounding this topic. The following is a summary of his remarks:
Generally, the new law applies to only “new” bus drivers
Includes guidelines for driver training programs
Department of Safety will enforce requirements of the new law as part of issuing the school bus endorsement
The law requires adoption of a school transportation policy
